As we know dancers are preparing for the upcoming season, we would like you to be aware and consider the following guidelines for competition.
Prerequisites
To perform a solo, dancers must be enrolled in a weekly technique class for that discipline (except Hip Hop and Contemporary). Weekly technique classes are strongly encouraged, as they help dancers develop the skills needed for a successful performance.
No. of solos permitted
Dancers may perform up to the same number of solos as their years of participation in the troupe. Any exceptions must be requested in writing and are subject to approval by Miss Shauna.
Solo limits
Dancers ages 12 and under must do a ballet solo/duo/trio if participating in more than 2 solos. The approved disciplines are classical, demi character, contemp ballet, or contemp.
As we know dancers are preparing for the upcoming season, we would like you to be aware and consider the following guidelines for competition.
NEW
Level 1 dancers wishing to compete a solo must participate in the exam program for that discipline. For example, Tap solos require Tap exams, and Classical Ballet solos require Ballet exams.
Dancers must continue with exams until they have successfully completed a minimum of Grade 3 in the discipline they are competing. Contemporary and Hip Hop are the only exceptions to this policy.
S2S Approved Choreographers
To ensure our dancers are well prepared for their performances, all solo choreography must be created by a S2S approved choreographer. If you are unsure whether a choreographer is an approved fit for your dancer, please contact us before making arrangements.
No Duplicates
Dancers cannot enter more than one entry in any discipline/category.
Musical Interpretation
Musical Interpretation is a great way for the dancers to get feedback from the adjudicators before they perform their solos. Dancers performing more than 4 solos are encouraged to enter Ballet Musical Interpretation. Dancers performing more than 6 solos are encouraged to enter both Ballet and Jazz Musical Interpretation. This policy applies to PRNF only.
Dancer’s Own Choreo
Dancers wishing to do their own choreo must be 13 years or older. For more information on the requirements for entries please contact the office.
Teachers are permitted to pull any dance if it is not prepared 2 weeks before the performance.
Consistent attendance is required for participation in solos.
