With over 25 years in business in the Fort St. John area, Studio 2 Stage Dance Academy has established itself as a reputable and experienced institution for dance education. This extensive experience further underscores the academy’s dedication to providing high-quality dance training to its students across various dance styles, from Ballet and Tap to Hip Hop and Contemporary. It’s clear that the academy’s longevity and affiliations with respected dance organizations highlight its commitment to fostering a strong dance community and nurturing the artistic growth of its students.

Studio 2 Stage offers two divisions of training: Recreational and Competitive.  The recreational division offers a more relaxed and flexible approach to dance education and performance, while the competitive division involves a higher level of commitment, structured training, and participation in multiple performances and events. Both divisions seem to cater to different types of dancers, whether they’re looking for a casual dance experience or aiming for more intense training and performance opportunities.

Fostering a sense of community and integration, the recreational and competitive divisions often train together. Incorporating joint training sessions strengthens the sense of community and provides a well-rounded and enriching experience for all dancers involved. It creates a space where everyone can thrive and feel a strong sense of connection to the art of dance and to each other.

Recreational Division:

  • Classes: This division offers classes for all ages and disciplines of dance. It’s designed for individuals who want to learn and enjoy dancing without the intense commitment required by the competitive division.
  • Performances: Students in the recreational division have the opportunity to perform in both a Christmas Recital and a Spring Recital. These performances allow students to showcase their progress and skills to friends and family.
  • Fundraising: There are no fundraising requirements for students in the recreational division.
  • Exams: Students in the recreational division are allowed to participate in exams upon teacher recommendation.

Competitive Division:

  • Classes: The competitive division involves more structured class requirements, including disciplines like Tap, Jazz, and Ballet, as well as preparation for competitions. This division is suited for dancers who want to take their skills to a more serious level and are willing to commit to a higher level of training.
  • Performances: Students in the competitive division have a more extensive performance schedule. They participate in the Christmas Recital, Spring Recital, three competitions, school shows, and a gala.
  • Northern Dance Theatre Society: Competitive division members are part of the Northern Dance Theatre Society, which is a non-profit group that helps the families of the competitive program with workshops, costumes, and entry fees.
  • Fundraising: As members of the Northern Dance Theatre Society there will be required fundraising for each dancer.  Fundraising is a practical and effective way to support the various needs of your dance program, from costumes and competition fees to workshops and community engagement. It allows dancers to pursue their passion and participate in enriching experiences while minimizing financial barriers.
  • Exams: Students in the competitive division are allowed to participate in exams upon teacher recommendation.

Exams

Exams provide a structured way for students to showcase their progress and skills in dance. They offer a formal assessment of a student’s technique, artistry, and overall dance abilities. By participating in exams, students receive feedback from experienced professionals or examiners, which can help them understand their strengths and areas for improvement.

Benefits of Exams:

  • Goal Setting: Exams give dancers a clear goal to work towards. This goal-setting aspect can motivate students to consistently practice and refine their dance skills.
  • Feedback: Constructive feedback from examiners can be incredibly valuable. It helps students understand their current level of proficiency and provides guidance on how they can further develop their technique and artistry.
  • Self-Confidence: Successfully completing an exam can boost a student’s self-confidence and sense of accomplishment. It’s a tangible validation of their hard work and dedication.
  • Structured Learning: Exams often require a certain level of mastery in various dance techniques. This structured learning path ensures that students acquire a well-rounded foundation in dance.
  • Evaluation: Exams can serve as a benchmark for both students and teachers to gauge progress over time. They help track development and growth in dance skills.
  • School Credits: Offering senior students the opportunity to earn school credits through dance exams is a fantastic incentive. It recognizes the rigor and dedication required for advanced dance education and aligns dance studies with the academic curriculum.
